Script details: |
A South East MEP says the EU’s fisheries chief was encouragingly understanding about the plight of the small fishing fleets in our region. South East Lib Dem, Catherine Bearder, took a group of Hastings fishermen to see the Fisheries Commissioner, Maria Damanaki, for a meeting in Brussels yesterday. Catherine Bearder says in the past decisions on issues like fishing quotas have been dominated by the big commericial operators. This was an opportunity for our fishermen to explain their situation. She says she hopes that this will be the start of including small boat fishermen, and their communities, in the decision making process. |
