Oil contracts off the coast of Scotland are to be scrutinised by the EU. The European Energy Commissioner told MEPs in the European Parliament that he wanted to check and double check the laws and regulation surrounding oil exploration in the North Sea in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico disaster. Speaking through a translator, The European Energy Commissioner, Günther Oettinger, announced a raft of measures to, what he called, “stress test” the industry.
