Conflicting evidence on state of South West fishing stock (2 of 3)

Of interest to:

Script details:
South West fishermen could help make fishing stock stats more accurate – that’s the suggestion one of our MEPs has been putting to EU officials. The data is important because it is used to decide whether to make more cuts on the number of days fishermen can go out to sea, and how much they can catch in future. Julie Girling, the South West’s Conservative MEP has been meeting with industry experts and the European Fisheries Commissioner, Maria Damanaki in Strasbourg to raise the concerns of fishermen from our region. She says the Commissioner was receptive to the idea that the fishermen who know the seas could help compile the statistics.
