Title:
Conflicting evidence on state of South West fishing stock (1 of 3)

Of interest to:

Script details:
Conflicting information on the state of fish stocks round the South West casts a shadow over the validity of the science – that’s according to Julie Girling, the South West’s Conservative MEP. International calculations on the number of fish are used in deciding whether South West fishermen should bare the brunt of more quota cuts. If the science is wrong, those fishermen could face unnecessary hardship. Julie Girling has been meeting with industry experts and the European Fisheries Commissioner, Maria Damanaki in Strasbourg to raise concerns on the issue. Julie Girling says she hopes it will make the EU think twice before it imposes future cuts.
