Northern Ireland fishermen should take a bigger role in deciding fishing quotas, says an industry leader. British MEPs and fishermen representatives have been meeting with the Fisheries Commissioner in Strasbourg. Fishing quotas are likely to change in coming years as the Common Fisheries Policy comes up for review. Alan McCulla from the Anglo Northern Irish Fish Producers' Organisation says that if the EU devolves some of the decision making powers to Northern Ireland, the industry will prove it can manage a sustainable future. |
