Title: Charge lorries for entering Britain, proposes MEP (1 of 3) |
Of interest to: 8 |
Script details: |
All lorries should be charged a levy for entering Britain. That’s the suggestion by South East MEP, Richard Ashworth. This morning a report by the Commons Public Accounts Committee said more needs to be done about the impact of foreign freight traffic on UK roads. Richard Ashworth says the answer is to make them pay for some of the expense they cause, particularly to the South East. His suggestion is for a levy on ferry tickets offset for British hauliers by a reduction in their company taxes.
