Rules designed to keep the UK and Ireland rabies-free have been extended thanks to a Northern Ireland MEP. Bairbre de Brún has been working on the protections for several months in the European Parliament. Under the agreement today, pet owners will continue to be able to take their microchipped animals abroad, and extra checks on animals entering the UK will now stay till at least the end of 2011.
