Script details:
It’s hoped hospital staff will be better protected by a new EU law agreed yesterday. Liz Lynne, the West Midlands MEP, has been campaigning for years for better protection against medical needles. There are thought to be around a million injuries involving the sharp instruments every year across Europe. Now the EU has given the go ahead for more protections voted through in the European Parliament last month. The UK government has up to three years to comply with the new rules. They include more training and the use of so-called re-cappable needles that cover the sharp end after use. It will give health staff more confidence, according to Liz Lynne .
