A campaign started six years ago by a West Midlands MEP has led to a change in European law. The Liberal Democrat Euro MP, Liz Lynne, has been lobbying for safer medical needles. The European Parliament agreed last month that there must be better protections for staff. Yesterday the EU rubber stamped that decision. According to statistics from the Royal College of Nursing, 100,000 people are injured by needles in the UK every year. Liz Lynne say she hopes the government will quickly adopt the new European standards. |
